Or should I say we’ve got a raccoon by the tail? If there was any doubt that your Des Moines Cycle Club was serious about promoting and growing our passion in the Des Moines Metro, 2009 should be the proof. Last week we announced our plans to host a major new ride called Tour the Raccoon, you can read the details on the home page. Your board of directors has shown a lot of vision, determination and given a lot of their time. Sure it’s a labor of love, we’re learning a lot and we enjoy working together and this is just the start. Early in the fall we’ve got another event that we plan to host, so we’re not stopping now.

To pull all of this off we’re going to need support from individuals, organizations, companies and city and government agencies but so far the support has been very positive. If you’d like to get involved, as an individual or maybe convince your company to sponsor our club or rides just let us know.

The Tour the Raccoon is patterned as a one night Ragbrai, an event we all know very well. It’s for those of us that can’t take an entire week off of work or the many riders who don’t like to ride on the streets. And don’t be fooled, Jefferson is hosting their Bell Tower Festival this same weekend so there will be plenty or opportunities to have a great time. As we learned during Ragbrai, Jefferson knows how to throw a party.
